Special Update: Black Friday Storm Potential
I've been monitoring this for the last several days, and it continues to look like a significant storm system will be impacting Upstate NY beginning on Friday and lasting into Saturday. This storm will be coincident with the first real shot of cold air this season, and the potential does exist for a significant plowable snow in parts of the state.
At this point it is too early to pin down exactly where the heaviest snow will occur, but most computer model guidance has been focusing on the region from the Finger Lakes up through the North Country...in which case Western New York would catch the western fringe of the snowfall with generally lighter amounts. There is one model, however, that has consistently been placing the heaviest snow right in our backyard...so that possibility cannot be discounted altogether. Wherever this band of heavy snow sets up, the potential will exist for an accumulation of 6" or more. Most of the snow would fall between late Friday and early Saturday, with conditions gradually improving during the day on Saturday.
There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the evolution of this possible storm, but since this weekend is such a busy travel period I encourage you to check back here for updates throughout the week.
